Motorcycle trip in the Western Alps

The meeting point is near Turin. Those arriving by plane can immediately hit the first kilometers with their rental vehicle right after landing. This adventure through the Western Alps is more or less right at your doorstep. Action, adventure, and pure nature await you on breathtaking mountain trails. On this week-long enduro trip, you can either arrive on your own motorcycle or experience the new Yamaha Ténéré Rally equipped with Touratech as a rental bike. You will discover old forts and enjoy unique views of the Alps. In the saddle of your T7, you will experience the impressive landscape between the rugged rock formations. Along the Italian-French border, we will cross the Alps on our enduros until the Mediterranean comes into view. Dream routes that every passionate off-road rider has heard of and wants to ride, such as the Ligurian Ridge Road, the Col de Parpaillon, the Col de Sommeiller, the Maira-Stura, and the Strada dei Cannoni, are just a small selection of well-known names. On our off-road motorcycle trip, we will also explore some additional, partly unknown hidden gems that are appealing and have a lot to offer. Initially asphalted roads quickly transition to gravel and loose stones. This variety will bring a dusty smile to the face of every participant. Every day we experience and learn something new, and the constantly changing conditions will challenge the spirit, body, and machine. Technically more demanding sections, remote valleys, and infinitely winding passes with breathtaking views alternate with each other. The overnight stays in the great outdoors will make every adventurer's heart beat faster. To start the trip relaxed, you have the option to have your motorcycle delivered directly to the starting line in Turin by the OVERCROSS® transporter and fly in. The subsequent enduro trip route should be seen as a travel suggestion, as roads can be blocked, closed, or even impassable long-term, as well as short-term. Due to these constant changes, we strive to clarify this as well as possible in advance and adjust the route according to the local conditions. Hardly any trip is as dynamic from year to year as our Western Alps Tour. There is certainly something new to discover every year, guaranteeing one or the other surprise. A real adventure, right at our doorstep - come along!

Daily program: Motorcycle Adventure in the Western Alps

Day 1: Arrival Day for the Western Alps Enduro Trip:

The individual arrival allows you maximum flexibility – whether you arrive by plane or motorcycle, the adventure starts right away! Your destination: An exclusive meeting point near Turin on a Saturday evening. Experience the freedom to design your day according to your wishes and make the journey part of your personal adventure. Around 7:00 PM, we meet at the hotel, where a delicious dinner awaits to kick off our first day together.

Day 2: We ride over the Colle de Colombardo - Colle dell’Assietta - Sestriere

The first riding day of our Enduro trip starts with a highlight: an initial off-road pass that brings excitement right into the game. The Colle del Colombardo at 1889 m is one of the smaller passes, but definitely not less spectacular. This well-maintained, gravel pass offers the perfect opportunity to get into the off-road adventure and really get the machines rolling. From there, we continue through the breathtaking Susa Valley before meeting the legendary Colle dell’ Assietta ridge road. Our destination is the famous Colle delle Finestre, which we reach via a challenging but exciting route. With a length of about 40 km, this off-road section is one of the highlights of the trip and offers not only adrenaline-pumping rides but also unforgettable views of the impressive summit panorama of the Alps. After a well-deserved lunch break, where you can take in the incredible scenery, we continue over the endless off-road gravel. After the ridge road, we roll down into the valley towards Sestriere, where a short stretch of asphalt awaits us before we finally reach our accommodation in Oulx. After this action-packed day, we relax in the evening with a refreshing beer and a hearty BBQ – a perfect end to an adventurous first day.

Day 3: Mountain Pass of Col de Sommeiller

Monday begins with an absolute highlight on our Alpine crossing! Today we head up to the highest legally accessible point of the entire Alps – the majestic Col de Sommeiller. With an impressive height of 2,995m, this peak is not only a spectacular viewpoint, but also known for the legendary motorcycle meeting Stella Alpina, which attracts numerous adventurers every year. But Col de Sommeiller is more than just a destination for the known motorcycle meeting in Europe: it is a summit, not a classic mountain pass road, making the approach even more special. After a relaxing lunch break under the brilliant high-altitude sun, where you can enjoy the breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains, we retrace our steps back down into the valley. If there is enough time and energy left, we have another little treat on the return route to our cozy hostel: another pass that we can take under our wheels if desired.

Day 4: Monte Jafferau

Today, Monte Jafferau is on our schedule – a true giant of the Alps! At 2,805m, this pass belongs to the most impressive destinations of the trip. The Monte Jafferau can be approached from various directions and is even used as a ski area in winter, making it a very special destination. Our ride takes us along exciting off-road paths past historical forts, offering fascinating insights into the history of the region. Some of these forts we can even explore from the inside – a real bonus for all who are interested in history and extraordinary views. After the epic pass, we continue with a short on-road stretch that takes us back to the French side. But the day is far from over! Depending on the arrival time and the group's energy reserves, we may have the opportunity to climb another small peak and discover a breathtaking lake along the way.

Day 5: Col du Parpaillon

From Embrun, we start today towards one of the most legendary off-road passes in the Alps – the Col du Parpaillon. This impressive pass is not only known for its unlit summit tunnel but also for the unpredictable conditions that make it a real adventure. The gravel surface can vary from muddy puddles, slippery mud, or even ice, depending on the weather. The tunnel itself is an exciting experience that gives you a real feel for the challenges of crossing the Alps. Once we arrive on the other side, we enjoy the descent into the valley, which, with its scenery and dramatic views, provides a true “wow moment.” After this adrenaline kick, we continue on a connecting stage – on asphalt, leading us back into the Italian region. In the Stura Valley, surrounded by the majestic Alps, we reach our destination for the night.

Day 6: Maira Stura Ridge Road

After a hearty breakfast in the charming Demonte, we start today into one of the absolute highlights of our trip – the highly popular Maira-Stura ridge road among motorcyclists. This spectacular route begins at Colle Valcavera and leads us over beautiful, gravel trails to Marmora. The ridge road itself is a true off-road paradise that impresses not only with challenging sections but also with views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. Depending on our arrival time in Marmora, we may have the opportunity to take a relaxed afternoon ride and delve into the surrounding mountains. Here, unforgettable views and a final piece of adventure await before we let the day come to a peaceful end.

Day 7: Alta Via del Sale

Today, we can expect a real highlight on our motorcycle journey: After an initial connecting stage, we head into the day with another 60km of spectacular off-road! The legendary Alta Via del Sale winds along the Italian-French border and offers us breathtaking views as we battle through the wild terrain. This historic route ends about 20km before the Mediterranean coast and will stay in our memories for a long time. Today's day will undoubtedly be the most challenging of our trip – with demanding sections and challenging tracks. But don’t worry: after this intense stage, we can look forward to a well-deserved highlight: A typical Italian dinner in a charming agritourismo in the Ligurian mountains. Here, we can regain our strength with delicious regional specialties and end the day with good food and great company. We will spend our last night in this rustic refuge.
